The Queen...

My beautiful great-aunt, Leona, is 89 years old. She has outlived all of her siblings, including my grandfather (her baby brother) who passed away just a few weeks ago. Now, I am waiting anxiously by the phone to hear that this morning's news of her condition isn't bad news.

What I really wish is that I could go back 28 years, when I was 5 years old, watching "Days of Our Lives" with her at lunch time, sitting at her table at 3 a.m. having a middle-of-the-night snack, playing "Fluffy" and "Crybaby" with her feet, being forced to watch "White Christmas" for the very first time and thinking now, "Oh, how I love that movie!", going to Mike Linnig's every summer, Florida trips every year, having the biggest stack of pancakes on Saturday mornings, playing "school" on her front porch, and oh, the shopping trips! The woman could shop like nobody's business.

But, here I am, turning 33 tomorrow, and feeling like those days are a lifetime away. I do know that if she passes today, it will have been a long, hard, but happy life she lived.
